Greenfield has arrived at a crossroad. We are now at a choice point in relation to how we want to be community, with each other, with the region and with the planet. Choosing involves deciding and deciding involves discerning and clarifying the majority values.

Greenfield Historical Commission News Greenfield Center, heart of this community, has a long and well-documented past. Imagine the 1770s when the Village Plan included 8-acre house lots along both sides of Main Street, 6 rods wide, the Road to Bernardston (High Street) at the east end, the Rev. Roger Newton's house and Samuel Bliss's house and store at the Common, and the Road to Deerfield, 12 rods wide, turning onto Mill Street which ended at the Green River grist mill. At Main Street's west end, the Coleraine-Shelburne Road ran over an old causeway north to Leyden. New information is still unearthed for places we pass every day, revealing their importance and reasons for preservation. |
