My name is David Singer and I am running for Town Council for Precinct 5. I have lived in Greenfield for 23 years. My children grew up in Greenfield. My law office is in Greenfield. Over the past 14 years, I have been active in Town government. I have served on the following committees: School Committee for 6 years, 2 as Chair; 1 year on the Charter Commission as an ex officio member, 2 years on the Central Maintenance Committee, 3 years on the Zoning Board as an alternate member, and currently as the Chair of the Building and Planning Committee. Basically, I love this Town. I am running for Council because I believe I can bring a different approach to Town Government and help move Greenfield in a positive direction. I am a lawyer and a mediator. I have experience with bringing people together and solving problems. I don’t have all the answers, but I know how to ask questions, and I know how to frame and facilitate a discussion so that people understand how much in common they share. I want to help stop the anger, the negative conversations, and the blame. I want to encourage ideas and I want to move Greenfield in a new direction. We can do it. We have the people power to make this Town great, but we need to coordinate efforts. Why should you vote for me and not Beth Adams? Some differences are that I have many years of experience with our local government, I have lived in the community and our neighborhood for many years, I have recognized skills in team building and I am independent. I am also a professional mediator who has helped resolve complex matters. The ones who will help unite us are the “reasonable” people. I wish to serve you in that way. Please vote for me on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. |

If the Greenfield Conservation Commission is going to vote in favor of an unnamed Big Box store on the French King Highway, it's going to have to ignore much of what its own consultant has reported this week. Most of the peer reviewer's letter focuses on 'wetland 4' which lies right in the middle of the developer's proposed big box store. |

Candidate for Town Council in Precinct 5 Public service and political life are in my genes. Both my parents were intimately involved in volunteer public service and philanthropy, and I inherited a strong service ethic from them. An entrepreneur, having started several for-profit and non-profit business ventures, I am a “people person”. I have consistently worked in positions to facilitate health and well being for persons of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. I like to incorporate ideas of my constituents, rather than take my own direction all the time. I plan to keep the channels of communication open post-election and build outreach to people in Precinct 5 via Precinct Meetings, surveys and going door to door. |

With our schools in crisis, the school year coming to a close, and jobs in the balance, the school committee once again was unable to keep its collective eye on the ball. "We are stalled," stated member Jennifer Mahar. "We can't continue to move at a snail's pace," interjects John Lunt. "We need to move things along," comments Mayor Forgey. Yes, yes and yes. This was all in response to discussion on a motion to remove Greg Aubin as chair of the committee. I would say those comments apply to everyone on the committee including Mr. Aubin and calls into question their collective and individual roles played in the debacle we are now in. |
