Two experts in the field, David Knowles and Marc Kaufmann, will give you the information you need to reduce your heating bills. They will talk about how a house works, what to ask for and expect from an energy audit, how to decide what to do first, and how to choose a new heating or hot water system. Utility representatives, energy auditors, insulators, heating contractors, and bankers will be on hand to talk with you. Take-home handouts give you the tools you need to take action.

Recently, the Mayor interrupted a School Board Meeting with a pitch to convince the School Board Members to vote against Question 1, the Elimination of the Income Tax. Certainly surprised that it even became part of the meeting, I still felt the Mayor's urgency in addressing this issue at a School Board Meeting impressed me that Income Tax was in real danger of being eliminated. |

Recent announcements of Verizon’s expansion of high-speed access are a hopeful sign for Western Massachusetts. Long in coming, we who use the internet a lot owe a large debt of gratitude to Governor Patrick for his support of this project. For some folks in the Commonwealth, in the populace East, there are a feast of riches with often three providers and a variety of speeds. Alas with emphasis on density of population and, for Verizon, expansion of the more profitable digital wireless, we in the West have been long neglected. |

The income tax question on the ballot this fall is a reckless proposal that will have severe and immediate consequences for all of us. This binding referendum will take $12.7 billion—nearly 40 percent—out of the state budget, driving up local property taxes and leading to drastic cuts in services. Our communities will suffer sweeping education cuts, steep reductions in public safety personnel and further deterioration of roads and bridges. Times are hard enough. |
