GREENFIELD, MA – Greening Greenfield’s 10% Challenge is gaining momentum, and Aubuchon Hardware is helping out during the month of December. Over 400 households have taken the Greenfield 10% Challenge and pledged to reduce their energy use by 10% by the end of 2010. This marks the halfway point to the Greening Greenfield Energy Committee’s goal of engaging 800 households in the campaign.
To take the Campaign to the next step, Greenfield’s Aubuchon Hardware Store has set up a special table during December where customers can sign up for the campaign, learn about how they can reduce their energy bills by up to $1400 each year, how to sign up for utility energy audits, and about the many products that Aubuchon carries that can help you make your home more comfortable while reducing energy use. "We are happy to partner with Greening Greenfield to help the community become more energy efficient," says Tim Seymour, Manager of Aubuchon Hardware’s Greenfield store. “December is a great time to find drafts from doors and windows and plug them up with low-cost weather-stripping, interior storms, or removable caulk.” Tim Seymour joined the effort when he was approached by Kris Walter, Greening Greenfield’s October Hero of the Month, about setting up a display showcasing Aubuchon’s energy-saving products. “It’s important to Tim that the display also provides a good range of suggested actions and information on available tax rebates and energy-saving resources,” said Kris Walter. “He wants to help educate his customers so they can save money and make more deliberate choices about their energy use, and I think that’s commendable.” “I am thrilled Aubuchon is helping to promote the Greenfield 10% Challenge,” said Susan Worgaftik, co-creator of the Challenge and member of the Greening Greenfield Energy Committee. “Kris Walter’s idea of engaging them as our partner is brilliant and Tim’s support is heartwarming. We hope hundreds of people will visit Aubuchon this month and sign up for our 10% Challenge!” People who take the Greenfield 10% Challenge receive a free lawn sign, a list of how to save up to $1400 in a year on energy costs, and an email each month with an “energy tip.” To find out more about the Greenfield 10% Challenge, go to Aubuchon Hardware store at 312 Federal Street in Greenfield during the month of December, or go to Greening Greenfield’s web site at www.GreeningGreenfield.org and click on the 10% Challenge logo, or call Kris Walter at 413 687-7204. # # #
