TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired center Daniel Corso from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for right wing Darren Reid, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced. orso, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound native of Montreal, Quebec, has appeared in six games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League this season. He has scored two goals and recorded four assists with an even plus/minus rating in his first season with the Phantoms. He spent the 2005-06 season with the Frankfurt Lions, recording 11 goals and 17 assists in 29 games. Corso ranked fourth on the team in points and goals.
Corso, 28, has played in 77 career NHL games with St. Louis and Atlanta, totaling 14 goals and 25 points. His best offensive season was 2000-01 when he scored 10 goals in 28 games with the St. Louis Blues. He has also played in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games and recorded one assist that season. He played three seasons with the Blues before joining the Atlanta Thrashers organization for the 2003-04 season.
Corso was drafted by St. Louis in the seventh round, 169th overall, at the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
Reid, a 6-2, 205-pound right wing, has scored one goal in 10 games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL this season. He played in seven games with the Lightning last season and recorded one assist. He was selected by Tampa Bay in the eighth round, 256th overall, at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. |

GAME SETUP: The Springfield Falcons and Portland Pirates meet for the first time this season tonight at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons and Pirates will meet 10 times this season and will square off again this weekend when Springfield heads to Portland on Sunday for a 4:05 PM matinee. The Pirates will head back to Springfield for a Thanksgiving Eve contest on Wednesday, November 22.
The Falcons head into tonight’s game on a two-game winning streak having defeated the Worcester Sharks 3-2 last Saturday night, followed by a 2-1 victory over the Lowell Devils on Sunday afternoon. Falcons center Jean Desrochers scored his first two AHL goals and earned the game’s first star in the triumph over the Sharks, while rookie Justin Keller netted the game-winning goal on the power play against the Devils. Veteran goaltender Sean Burke earned the victory between the pipes against Worcester making 21 saves, while rookie goaltender Karri Ramo collected the win on Sunday making 23 saves. Springfield will continue a busy home schedule this month playing their four of their next five games at the MassMutual Center. |

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that forward Radek Smolenak, defenseman Geoff Waugh and goaltender Jonathan Boutin have been recalled from their ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs. Springfield also announced that forward David Spina has been reassigned to the Chiefs.
Smolenak has played in six games with Johnstown this season and has collected four goals and two assists for six points. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound native of Prague, Czech Republic is currently tied for the Chiefs team lead in goals with four. Smolenak started the 2006-07 season in Falcons training camp after scoring 42 goals in 65 games with Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League last year.
Waugh was in the Falcons’ lineup opening night in Hartford and the Winnipeg, Manitoba native didn’t register a point in two games with Johnstown.
Boutin also started this season on the Falcons roster before heading to Johnstown to play in two games collecting a 3.07 goals against average and .919 save percentage. Boutin has not played in a game for the Falcons this season.
Spina has played in seven games for Springfield this year and has not collected a point. In 54 games with the Falcons last year, the Mesa, Arizona native collected 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points.
The Falcons will host a pair of games this weekend when the Rochester Americans come to town on Friday, followed by the Worcester Sharks on Saturday. GAME SETUP: Two historic American Hockey League cities compete once again when the Springfield Falcons and Rochester Americans meet for the first time since the 2000-01 season tonight at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons and Americans have met 16 times in franchise history with Springfield posting a record of 8-7-1 in that span. Springfield and Rochester will conclude their season series two weeks from tomorrow when the Falcons visit the Americans on November 18. |
