Red Alert: Congress Considering Dropping Renewables From Energy Bill PDF Print E-mail

If the crushing of hope were a renewable resource, then this Congress would be on the cutting edge of the clean energy revolution.  As it is, though, we have a red alert. Congressional leadership is dropping the ball on renewable energy, and we need your help to get back on track. On Thursday morning, Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi decided to drop the renewable energy standard out of the energy bill and drop the tax title. No tax title means no extension of the investment tax credit for solar, and no extenstion of the production tax credit for wind.

Sometimes, in order to know how much you truly love a place, you have to leave it. It's that way for me with Vermont: I was born and lived most of my life in the shadow of the wind towers on Mount Equinox. Here in northern Massachusetts, I live in the shadow of Entergy Vermont Yankee (ENVY).

Sustainable Energy Resource Group, Efficiency Vermont, and the Putney Energy Committee (PEC) have organized a free weatherization workshop to take place at the Putney Community Building (directions below), Saturday November 3 from 9am to 3pm.

The workshop is intended for homeowners who want to learn more about energy audits and retrofits before hiring a professional, and for "do-it-yourself" homeowners who will learn some basic air sealing techniques, as well as the critical health and safety issues related to tightening up a home.

WHAT:

An Ice Cream Social will be held at Bart’s Café, Greenfield, MA to:

1) Ask supporters of the Greening Greenfield Campaign to talk about their visions of what a “Greener Greenfield” would look like;
2) Thank those who have participated in the Greening Campaign to date by investing in the New England Wind Fund; and
3) Invite attendees to become more involved in the Campaign.

WHO:

The Greening Greenfield Campaign is a collaborative project of the Town of Greenfield and the Greening Greenfield Energy Committee. Mayor Christine Forgey is sending Sandra Shields, Director, Department of Public Works (DPW), to deliver her thanks to the Campaign supporters, reiterate the Town’s commitment to the Greening Greenfield Campaign, and talk about what the DPW is doing.

Vermont Yankee; ORAL COMMENTS TO BE ACCEPTED IN BRATTLEBORO, VT., ON OCT. 11 PDF Print E-mail

REGARDING PROCEEDING ON VERMONT YANKEE RENEWAL APPLICATION

Interested citizens will have an opportunity on Thursday, Oct. 11, to comment on issues pending in an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) proceeding regarding the license renewal application for the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, located in Vernon, Vt. The remarks, which will be transcribed, will be heard by the three administrative judges handling the Vermont Yankee adjudicatory proceeding.

Known as "limited appearance statements," the comments will be accepted during two sessions to be held at the Latchis Theatre, at 50 Main St. in Brattleboro. (Directions are available on the theatre’s web site at: http://www.latchis.com/location.html .) The first session is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. and the second from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
